A complete copper alloy Medieval to early post-medieval buckle with composite forked spacer. The buckle frame is oval in shape with a bevelled outer face and a slight projection in the centre of the outer edge. The spacer consists of a rectangular section with a triangular notch in the centre, the outer edge narrowing into two tapering prongs, one of which is longer than the other. A simple wire pin remains wrapped around the gap between the two prongs. It survives in fairly good condition with a dark green patina.
A similar example was discovered at Meols (Griffiths et al. 2007, 83, no.604) and a late 14th to late 15th/early 16th century date is suggested in the report.
