Flattened copper alloy hand punched post medieval sewing ring or open topped thimble. It is 23mm tall and in its flattened state tapers from 30mm at the base to 23mm at the open top. There are eight rows of hand punched triangular (apex uppermost) indentations spiralling around the sides in a right-hand spiral, that start at the base with a hammer-like maker's mark (a T shape like a trefoil, with rounded ends to each of the arms). The thimble is probably a product of Nuremberg and dates to circa 16th century.
