A fragment of a post-Medieval copper-alloy buckle (c. 1720-c. 1790).
The fragment consists of part of one side of the frame and is decorated at the front. At the front the central part is oval in plan with a fleur at each end. The oval element has a beaded border at the edges. At the centre of the oval element is a line of four contiguous pointed oval depressions. Each has a beaded border and all have a pointed oval motif at their centres. At one side are two openwork slots forming an inner and outer frame. They are divided by two small integral bosses. Each slot measures c. 5.0 x 1.9mm. On the underside an outer flange is drilled for an iron spindle, part of which survives within the hole.
This fragment has a green patina and the iron is corroded. The break close to the openwork appears to be recent and the break at the opposite end is old.
Length: 56.9mm; width: 11.7mm; thickness: 8.5mm. Weight: 11.06g.
