An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative bow brooch. Only the base of the bow, foot, and catchplate survive, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. The bow is triangular in section, tapering to a pointed foot, and decorated on its front face by a prominent moulded mid rib flanked by vertical flutes. On the back face of the foot is an integrally cast catchplate that is flat, triangular in form, and with a folded outer edge that has a rectangular pin groove on its inner surface. The entire object measures 24.04mm in length, 4.56mm in width, 2.48mm in thickness (at bow, 9.23mm including catchplate), and 1.90g in weight.
This is an incomplete Roman Colchester derivative bow brooch. It is of late-1st to 2nd century AD date, c.43-120 AD.
