Fragment of Roman, 3rd-4th century, mortarium, Oxfordshire White ware fabric, AD.200-350. This is a large fragment of mortarium with a high rim and narrow flange. The interior surface has a layer of multicoloured quartzite grit and does show some evidence of having been used, with some wear towards the bottom of the sherd. The vessel is undecorated though the interior possibly retains a thin layer of white slip towards the top of the sherd below the rim. See also LON-499D2E for a comparison.
