An incomplete copper alloy belt fitting of probable late medieval date. The object consists of a circular hoop attached to which is a single rectangular plate of copper alloy that folds over on itself to create a loop at one end where it wrapped around the hoop. The plate has broken recently at the fold and each face is present separately. In the centre of each face of the plate is an oval perforation which would have held a copper alloy rivet. The rivet is present but separate. The hoop is of uneven thickness where the connections have rubbed against it causing it to narrow in places.
The strap plate is undecorated. This strap fitting is too small to have been used as a harness fitting and it is likely that this was attached to a belt from which a small knife or other personal item could have been suspended. An similar aretfact illustrated in Egan & Pritchard (1991:221 no.1190) was recovered from a context dating from c. AD 1350-1400.
