SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: NLM-59C465

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Pale grey translucent flint of good quality scraper. Perhaps the tiniest tool seen by this reporter, and of quite uncertain purpose, perhaps a trial piece or a sport. Long parallel flakes are struck from the dorsal side; there is a bulb on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved end where the bulb is sited; possibly broken at the other. The lack of patina may suggest this object was incorporated into a sealed context shortly after its deposition. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Length: 14mm, Width: 7.8mm, Thickness: 2.8mm, Weight: 0.37gms.
