A complete lead medieval or post-medieval spindle whorl or weight. It is roughly hemispherical in shape with a circular hole through the centre. It survives in fairly condition with a pale oxidised patina, although the surfaces are heavily scratched and pitted.
The object may have functioned as a weight, or more probably a spindle whorl. Most lead spindle whorls are Medieval or early Post-Medieval in date, although they were in use for a long period of time and when undecorated, like this example, are difficult to date more closely.
