A worn head from a Roman copper alloy female standing figure. No neck survives and most of the back of the head is also missing. The head is hollow and is partly infilled with dark grey fired clay. The head has a ring of braided hair, parted in front and on the top. The hair is delineated on the top of the head by curving grooves. There is a probable diadem above and below the braids, on the front. The facial features are eroded, especially the nose.
This appears to be the head from a complete standing figurine, perhaps Fortuna. Emma Durham kindly comments: There are plenty of examples of figurines wearing diadems or headdresses of some sort and so without the body one can't identify which deity it is. Although one might prefer an identification such as Venus or a Mother Goddess there are similar heads on a number of Dianas and perhaps Fortuna.
