An incomplete copper-alloy European brooch of 'Knotenfibeln' or 'Boss-on-Bow' type of Late Iron Age date. This type of brooch is derived from La Téne III brooches and dates to 100 -50BC.
The bow is circular in section tapering to a broken loop at one end from which an integral spring and pin would have extended. The break is old and worn. The opposite end tapers to a worn rounded foot from the reverse of which a catchplate extends curving round to form a hook for the pin. At the centre of the brooch a rounded knop is present flanked by triple banded semi-circular collars. The central band of the lower collar has a rope-work design. The brooch is now distorted with a bend in the lower bow.
