An incomplete handle from a spoon or knife of post-medieval date. The object has an iron core which is coated with white metal, probably silver. The handle is sub-rectangular in plan tapering in width towards the break where it terminates. It is hexagonal in cross-section. The outer silvered surface is decorated with two transverse bands. Above the upper band (towards the complete end) the object is decorated with a possible fleur-de-lis on each face. Between each band on one face two moulded ovals are visible with a series of pellets within them. The ovals are broad and rounded at one end tapering to a curved point at the other and possibly represent a set of wings. On the opposite face at the is point the metal has worn away. At the terminal end of the object are two swirl-like mouldings on each face. The tinned or silvered coating is dark grey in colour while the iron core is corroded .
