Medieval lead spindle whorl with a straight-sided hole, five projecting lozengiform bosses separated by groups of vertical ribs and a circumferential casting flash or a deliberate rib. Diameter 26.3mm. Height or thickness 15.2mm. Weight 42.64g, 1.5045oz avoirdupois, 1.3710oz troy. Hole diameter 11mm. Cf. very similar examples from Norfolk (all previously indentified as weights of unknown date): Congham (HER 44043, NMS-C4BCE8), Kenninghall (HER 39262), Ketteringham (HER 55806, NMS-78D19C), King's Lynn (HER 36070), Narborough (HER 34960, NMS-D38B35), Stody (HER 50107, NMS-1C3DC7), Trowse with Newton (HER 40903, NMS-C2B7A3) and Upwell (HER 41359, NMS-6ADF54). See NARC-5D8EAB for other examples on this database. All are remarkably similar but the number of diamond bosses does vary between 4, 5 and 6.
