An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy possible hooked tag, dating to the period c. AD 720-850. The hooked tag is circular in plan, with a rectangular aperture for attachment situated towards one terminal. The other terminal tapers to a worn break, which would have potentially extended into a curved hook. The tag is undecorated and a green-brown patina is present on the surface.
The hooked tag measures 26.05mm in length, 12.15mm in width, 0.69mm in thickness and weighs 0.95g.
This is Read's Class A, Type 2, although it exhibits one rectangular attachment aperture, rather than multiple circular apertures. This discrepancy, along with the thinness of the metal may indicate that this is not a hooked tag.
Cf. Read (2008) p.14-19, for similar examples.
