An incomplete and worn copper-alloy Langton Down brooch of Iron age to Roman date. It is missing part of the spring casing, pin and lower half of the bow due to old breaks. The wings are cylindrical in form, missing their extremities due to old breaks, and folded to encase the now missing spring. The bow is D-shaped in section with flat back and rounded front face, tapering towards old breaks. At its head the bow has a moulded and curved transverse ridge separating it from spring casing. Beneath this the front face has a possible vertical reeded decoration comprising six vertical reeds separated by flutes. It measures 24.59mm in length, 18.42mm in width at wings, 9.41mm in width at bow, 2.05mm in thicknes at bow, and 2.93g in weight.
This is an incomplete Langton Down brooch of later Iron Age to Roman date. It is similar to examples from Hacheston (Blagg et al., 2004: nos. 36-39) and dates to the 1st century AD, c.25-65 AD.
