Cast copper alloy large size annular ring buckle of medieval date 1300-1400 AD. The buckle is circular. The frame does not show any marks to which a pin would be fitted and there is no evidence of a recessed pin rest on the frame. The surface is plain and undecorated. The pin is complete and is attached to the buckle by a single loop which has been folded to secure the join. The pin is circular in plan and tapers to a rounded point. This is a buckle rather than a brooch as it has no mounting for the pin. Evidence indicates that they were used to secure belts at the waist or thigh. The frames are usually of slightly irregular thickness and pins are very robust with a blunt tip. The slight bunching of the material around the frame would have given the strap extra strength.The length is 39mm, the width is 30mm and the weight 10.89g. Similar to
