A copper alloy Medieval annular buckle (or possibly a brooch) dating from about AD 1250 - 1400. The buckle frame is circular in plan and oval in cross section and is plain. There is no constriction for the pin (see Egan and Pritchard' Dress Accessories, page 64 and 65 for a discussion of the differentiation of annular buckles and brooches) and just a slight notch or area of wear where the tip of the pin rests. The copper alloy pin is cast with an open loop to attach it to the frame, a raised bar moulding across the pin adjacent to the loop and a blunt point which tapers in thickness to sit smoothly against the frame. The buckle has a smooth, thin grey green patina. The buckle is 41.9mm diameter, 11.5mm thick and 20.85g. Compare number 36 on page 58 of Egan and Pritchard (1991) and others in the same book which suggest a date in the late 13th or 14th century.
