A complete silver cufflink of Post-Medieval date (AD 1725-1800). The object is a single disk element of a pair of cufflinks. The object is octagonal in plan with a convex front and scalloped edges and a concave reverse. The front of the object is decorated with an engraved pattern consisting of an octagonal boarder which respects the plan of the object. The central decorative motif id a rose with four main petals and four smaller (or sepal) petals with a circle in the centre of the flower. The reverse of the object has a soldered attachment loop composed of a circular sectioned wire. The links and matching cufflink are both missing.
Similar cuff link elements have been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. For example see finds: IOW-4A7C02; IOW-64694F; IOW-942384; IOW-FBD221; KENT-FAC03A; LON-427394; LON-BAD6E2; NMS-60A4F2; NMS-9A834A; PUBLIC-9CC632; SUSS-F91492 and WILT-323F27. All are considered to be late 17th Century to 18th Century in dating, and are generally considered to be less than 300 years and therefore not classified as Treasure under the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996.
