An incomplete Neolithic polished axehead, possibly of greenstone, dating 4000-2350 BC. The object is sub triangular in shape with an oval profile, though it appears that only the butt of the original axehead remains with a hackly fracture at one end. It is a fine grained stone with a mid-light grey green colour with dark reddish grey in places, possibly iron inclusion or staining.
Axeheads such as this tend to date to the Neolithic period, with the closest parallels on the database being ESS-3CD931 and WILT-CC0D46. The stone is not particular common to the area but known to originate in Devon and Cornwall.
