Description: An incomplete openwork silver dress hook with applied silver filigree decoration. The dress hook is trifoliate in shape, with one petal bent the reverse of the object and one terminating in an old break. Each petal would have originally been circular with floriate decoration in the form of a central perforation with an applied filigree border and a number of silver pellets, some of which may now be missing. This is in turn surrounded by eight further circular perforations, each of which exhibits a filigree border. Not all of the perforations have been fully pierced. These are in turn encircled by a filigree border. At one edge of the plate are the remains of an integral hook. At the apex between the hook and the plate is a small circle of filigree. The hook curls upwards and terminates in an old break. The reverse of the hook is decorated with a filigree border running down each long edge with a small circle of filigree in between. This last is incomplete due to old breaks.

Dimensions: The dress hook measures 19.75mm in length, 20.19mm in width, is 1.88mm thick and weighs 2.56g.

Discussion: The dress hook bears similarities in shape to Read's Class D Type 6 and Type 7. There are a number of similar parallels on the database including DUR-BCCF74, DOR-AD0C54 & SWYOR-58D4F8, all of which have been reported as Treasure.

Class: Read Class D
