Copper alloy strap end. Cast tongue shaped openwork strap end, Thomas Class E Type 2. A cast plate with two eccentrically positioned attachment holes at a lug at its straight (belt) end, and with two more at its edges. A step separates the belt end from the body of the plate which retains a further eight holes between elements of a presumably anthropomorphic motif. The object has a reddish tint typical of Anglo-Scandinavian metalwork; abraded. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-1000.
