Oval shaped Roman plate brooch. In the centre of the brooch is a recessed central oval that would have contained enamel, glass or a stone which is now missing. This is surrounded by a recessed cell that contains traces of red enamel, all of which is encased within a thick raised border. There catch plate and pin mount on the reverse are still in place, the pin mount is encased within iron corrosion which could be the remains of the pin.
