A copper-alloy French jetton, probably dating from the reign of Louis II, Count of Flanders (1346-1384).
Diameter: 24mm; thickness: 1mm. Weight: 3.68g.
Similar jettons are illustrated by Mitchiner (1988: 250-251); however, the legend on this jetton is unlisted. A likely reading is: (obverse) 'LES GETOVER[S] DE LA CH; (reverse) DE (NEI)/ORS/VLA', which probably translates as 'The jettons of the Chamber of Finance, Flanders'. A similar jetton is PAS record SUR-A21CC0. The Chambre aux Deniers is alluded to by Mitchiner (ibid. 232), who states: '...[it] was financed by the Trèsor and was responsible for managing the expenditure of the offices comprising the Maison du Roi.'
