Medieval copper alloy Sri Lankan coin of Vijaya Bahu IV. Obverse depicts a stylised king seated right holding an object, possibly a lotus. The reverse depicts a standing king, holding an object, possibly a lotus. To the left is a lamp and on the right five orbs and a lotus. Both the obverse and reverse have surrounding pelleted borders. Devanagari legend at right on the obverse is Śri vi ja ya ba hu (1 character less than normal). Dating to between 1271 and 1273 AD.

The diameter is 19mm and the weight 4.3g.

Notes:

Sri Lankan 10th to 13th century coins of this type, after the period of Chola domination, are identified by the seven character inscription to the right of the seated figure (the 2nd to 5th characters are usually clear, the little decoration above is a sri, and there are two more characters below).

Information sourced from Robert Bracey (British Museum - correspondence) and Codrington, H W (1924) 'Ceylon Coins and Currency' (p.70)

Found in association with LVPL-EFB9DF and possibly both are losses from an antiquarian collection.
