A complete flint fabricator. Made using a thick primary flake very dark grey to black highly siliceous flint which retains an area of nodule cortex on the dorsal face. The striking platform and bulb of percussion have been partially ground out and there are areas of polish and grinding on all surfaces, often removing the flake scar ridges. The finger-shaped fabricator has a profile which is triangular at the distal end and changes to D-shaped at the proximal end. There a remnants of large scale abrupt retouch along the long edges, worked from the ventral face.
Date: Neolithic to Early Bronze Age c. 3500 - 1500 BC
Dimensions: 66 mm x 14.5 mm x 16.5 mm
Weight: 21.5 g
Fabricators have a wide date range, but the polish evident on this example suggests it is more likely to be Neolithic to Early Bronze Age.
