An incomplete cast copper alloy 'signet' finger ring with engraved seal matrix bezel of probable post medieval or early modern date (1600 - 1800 AD). The hoop of the finger ring was oval (an irregular D shape) in plan and D shaped in cross section; it is now incomplete having been broken across the rear of the hoop and the shape is now heavily distorted. The hoop flares (expands) at the shoulders of the ring to form the bezel. The bezel is rectangular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross section. The external face of the oval bezel has a well formed and executed incised / engraved design. This design may act as a personal seal matrix although it is not deeply incised. The central image is that of two initials E. R. with trefoils and scrolls above and below - the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border that produces a rope like pattern in the impression. The shoulders of the bezel are plain; as is the hoop of the ring. The inner face of the ring and bezel are also plain and undecorated. The finger ring has an even but abraded mid-green / brown coloured patina which covers all surfaces. There are several small areas of damage as a direct result of abrasion in the ploughsoil. The style of the ring, the way it is cast, and the style of the letters all suggest a 17th century date .

The finger ring measures 29.7mm length, 13.4mm width, and is 12.4mm thick. The bezel measures 17.3mm length, 13.4mm width, and is 2.1mm thick. The ring weighs 4.49 grams.
