A fragment of a lead-alloy post-medieval toy petronel gun (AD c.1600-c.1630), consisting of one half of the butt. The fragment of the butt is downward-curving and straight-edged. The obverse is marked with two pellets in low relief and is decorated with a partially raised diamond lattice. The reverse is flat and undecorated except for two holes where the other half of the butt would have most likely fitted. The pointed end of the fragment indicates where the barrell of the gun would have extended from. The object is in a fairly worn condition and has a light grey and white patina from corrosion of the lead. Overall the object measures 43.6mm long, 11.2mm wide and 2.9mm thick. It weighs 6.1g.
cf. Forsyth, H. and Egan, G. (2005) Toys, Trinkets and Trifles: Base-Metal Miniatures from London 1200 to 1800. p. 97, no. 1.39. The fragment is also similar to records DUR-3BE03A, SUSS-41C181, YORYM-F41262 and KENT-761751.
