A complete Late Iron Age, cast, high tin content copper alloy, Cantiaci potin coin class I type Cantian C - Van Arsdell 117-1/119-1or ABC 150/153. Obverse: Crude celticized head outline of Apollo left, no pellet in 'eye' circle with small plain border. Inscription: N/A Reverse: Celticized line bull, charging or butting right made of curved lines. Inscription:N/A. Mint: Kentish. Slightly irregular flan with the remnant of a casting sprue above the head. Very fine slightly worn condition with vertical striations on the obverse only. Grey patina with a few patches of matt pale green surface corrosion. This is likely to date to 100-50BC. Ref. Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2014, page 7 No. 63, Celtic Coinage of Britain, R.D. Van Arsdell, Spink 1989, page 84 No. 117-1 & 119-1, British Iron Age Coins in the BM, Richard Hobbs, BM Trustees 1996, page 82 (plate 25) No. 673 or 675 and Ancient british Coins, Elizabeth Cottam, Philip de Jersey, Chris Rudd, John Sills, Chris Rudd 2000, page 34 ABC150 and 153. The coin is 19.03mm long, 17.24mm wide, 1,28mm thick, diameter 19.03mm and weighs 1.4g.
