An incomplete copper alloy Late Bronze Age socketed gouge dating to the period c. 1500 - 800 BC. The gouge commences in an worn break. The mouth is missing. The socket is D-shaped with an external width of 15.44mm and internal width of 9.34mm. The socket retains soil, therefore, the depth cannot be measured. From the socket the blade tapers along its length into a C-shaped cross-section with a furrow widening down the length to the edge which is heavily worn.

The gouge has a dark green-brown patina.

It measures 39.13mm in length, 15.14mm in width at the socketed end, tapering to 10.44mm in width at the blade end, The walls at the socket are c.3.64mm thick. The blade is 3.08mm thick. It weighs 23.12g.

Comparable socketed gouges have been recorded on the PAS database. For examples see: SWYOR-FCB525, NMGW-62C84F, DUR-06F0E8, IOW-EC25A7 and SUR-7898C5. The latter record notes that: "Socketed gouges have been found associated with metalwork assemblages of Wilberton (eg. Guilsfield, Savory, 1980, No. 268. 64-65) through Ewart Park (eg Penwyllt, Savory 1980, No 284. 7-8) and Llyn Fawr (Savory 1980, No 291 9-11).
