Terminal of a silver bracelet in the form of a snake's head, extremely crudely worked. The head is entirely devoid of decoration, apart from a pair of circular indents to form the eyes; on one side there is an additional indent for reasons that are unclear.

Date: possibly Roman, but snake bracelets of Roman date are not normally so crudely worked.

Note: this item is probably more than 300 years old and composed of more than 10% precious metal so may qualify as treasure as stipulated in the Treasure Act 1996.

Dr Richard Hobbs, Weston Curator of Roman Britain, Britain, Europe & Prehistory, The British Museum

Class: snake-headed
