A cast lead alloy uniface artefact of probable later medieval or post medieval date (AD 1200-1700). The artefact is circular in plan with a flat front surface and recessed reverse. A small circular hole has been pierced / drilled from the reverse through to the front face - this hole is positioned off-centre. The front face has a cast design which consists of a central irregular cross with bifurcated ends (cross fourchee). The zones within the angles of cross are filled with cross hachured raised cast lines. The reverse is flat and the edges raised to form a slight lip. The artefact is a mid-grey colour with a well formed patina which is slightly corroded; within the corrosion are small concreted stones. The function of the object is uncertain - it resembles a uniface token although the reverse does not conform to the object type. It is more likely to be a bezel from a signet ring or possibly the front face of a two part button.
The artefact measures: 17.4mm diameter, is 3.3mm thick and weighs 3.81 grams
