A cast copper alloy Late Bronze Age leaf shaped and pegged spearhead probably from the Penard - Ewart Park phases / industries (c 1100-800BC) which fits within Needham's period 6 - 7
The object has an elongated leaf-shaped blade that is lozenge shaped in cross-section with prominent mid rib. The blade tapers to a rounded point, the tip of which is damaged. The majority of the socket is missing due to ancient patinated breaks.
The blade measures 158mm in length. It is 56mm in width at the break along the socketed end tapering to 7mm in width at the tip. The blade measures 11mm in thickness at its central point. The blade measures 1.5mm thick along the cutting edge. Each face of the object has been damaged with the outer face being pushed inwards to the socket on one face and closer towards the tip on the other face. When complete the socket would have been oval in cross-section with holes for the pegs to allow the spearhead to attach to the haft.
The edges of the blade are undulating and damaged due to abrasion from within the plough soil. The object has a mid-brown patina with occasional patches of light green corrosion on each face.
