A copper alloy Medieval or post Medieval single loop D-shaped buckle with lipped frame or loop dating to c AD 1350-1600. The buckle frame is oval in cross section with a wider outside edge on which there is a central depression to hold the point of the pin or tongue. The frame narrows and is connected by a rectangular profile bar to which the pin is attached. The pin comprises a sheet of copper alloy which is folded around the bar, but the pin has broken off at the bar at an early date.

The buckle plate is broadly rectangular in plan and consists of a sheet folded around the recessed pin bar with a cut to take the pin. Underneath, the plate is narrower, having been cut to the width of the pin bar and it does not quite meet the end of the top part of the plate. A set of two rivet holes can be seen at the strap end of the plate. There are no rivets in place.

The buckle plate is 28.20mm in length including the lugs created to hold the pin bar, 17.20mm wide. It has a pattern of five zig-zag lines arranged along its length, two at the outermost edges, the others equidistant in between.

The buckle frame is 23.00mm in width and 17.50mm in length, 3.80mm thick at the outer edge where it is designed to take the point of the pin. The whole is 42.30mm in length overall. It weighs 6.20grams. There are sets of parallel transverse lines at each corner of the buckle and either side of the central depression for the pin. The reverse is undecorated. The patina is green overall.
