Silver seal matrix that has a tapering hexagonal handle projecting from the rear. The handle is surmounted by a trefoil suspension loop that has a triple banded collar between the loop and the shaft. The sub-circular matrix at the base bares the device of a religious scene depicting the archangel Michel holding a shield with a cross on the face. In his right hand he holds up a spear which he is trusting down into the open mount of a dragon at his feet. The archangel is shown with his wings furled and standing on the body of the dragon, with the tail of the beast looping up behind Michaels legs. To the right is the Virgin Mary crowned as the Queen of Heaven with the infant Jesus at her breast. Decorating the background is a series of small saltires.
This is contained within a thick sub-square border that has slightly concave sides, in the middle of each side is a small outward projecting angle under a low, rounded arch. This border is decorated with a line of saltires that run around its entire length. On the outside, along each of the straight edges of the device is the inscription S': WILL/I: DE: ST/INTES/COMBE which translates as the 'Seal of William of Stintescombe'
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
