Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.b. Plate 46. The copper alloy brooch is incomplete with most of the bow missing. The wings are semi-cylindrical, and whose terminals are abraded and only one has a trace of a wing cap. The wings are undecorated. At the upper edge of the wings and bow head there is a trace of an integral lug or hook which would have held the chord in place. The axis bar, spring and pin are missing. At the junction of the wings and bow is an undecorated hump-like feature. The bow is almost vertical, is oval in section and tapers to a broken edge, which is not a recent break. The surface of the brooch has a matt mottled green patina, otherwise it is abraded. It measures 17.92mm long, 16.1mm wide across the wings and weighs 3.73g.

The brooch is a Polden Hill type. Bayley and Butcher (2004:160) comment that the distribution of Polden Hill brooches are concentrated in the West Midlands and suggest they date to AD 80 to 120.
