From a gold flange twisted torc.
Metal composition: Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the fragment indicated a surface composition of approximately 88-89% gold, 11 % silver, and at least 0.5% copper.
Length: 35.73 mm
Width: 10.35 mm
Thickness: 1.09 mm
Weight: 12.02 gSmall, cut or broken sections of flange twisted torc are relatively common finds in England. Most have four 'arms', but several examples found by metal detecting have had only three. They are also known as complete torcs with trumpet shaped terminals. Its size, shape and character are typical of the period and of English finds, as is the compositional analysis (especially the Ag:Cu ratio).
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.2015-11-20 10:04:592019-11-27 15:32:26422015-11-142019.385Probably11221313PAS564EF04B00187723111BUCPotential for inclusion in BritanniaGold10892CastFragmentGoodBRONZE AGEBAx13712p0gjgrs6qb2BRONZE AGEBAx13712p0gjgrs6qb2Metal detectorCircaCirca75359113861316130341425Restricted AccessTL3846TL34NEMeldreth area23424975101541629DSCN2794.JPG258222Bronze Age gold torc/braceletBuckinghamshire County Museum4images/rtyrrell/EasternCultivated landEuropean RegionCountyCambridgeshireDistrictSouth CambridgeshireCivil Parish52.09580.001615Restricted AccessAcquired by museum after being declared Treasure96743
