An incomplete, worn copper-alloy Early-Medieval/Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup-strap mount of Williams Class B It is sub-rectangular with a projecting angled flange. There are two circular rivet holes through the flange which measure 3mm in diameter. The object thickens slightly towards the top before it terminates with an ancient break. There are no upper fixing holes present. The outer face is decorated with worn interlace which is possibly zoomorphic but difficult to interpret due to the wear. The stirrup-strap mount has a light green corroded surface.
This is an Early-Medieval/Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup strap mount that would have been attached to the upper portions of the now missing stirrup. There are similar examples recorded by Williams (Williams, 1997). A similar type from Meols is Williams (1997), p97, no. 474.
