A Medieval to Post Medieval lead alloy trough for cage birds, often referred to as a 'bird feeder'. The item is D-shaped in section, being flat at the back and rounded at the front of the vessel. The sides gently taper downwards to the base. The front is decorated with two horizontal moulded lines, and at the back of the object are the initials 'W D'.

Egan (2005) lists four examples of birdcage troughs which were for 'holding water, green plants or seed for cage birds'. According to Egan, earlier 15th to 16th century troughs are decorated whilst plainer examples continue until the late 17th century. As this item has little decoration, it is more likely to be of amid to late 17th century date.
