Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 11.5mm, Walton Rogers form A1. The flat upper surface bears an intermittent ring around the aperture, probably an effect of cooling in an open mould. The generous aperture size should probably commend an Anglo-Scandinavian date. The mass may suggest a primary use for plying cord. Suggested date: Eaerly Medieval, 850-1000.
