Debitage, flint flake of the Neolithic to Early Bronze Age period, probably dating from c. 3500 - c. 1500 BC.
The object is probably a primary or secondary flake removed from a larger core, and then subjected to further working. The object is semi circular in plan and triangular in section. The right side edge of the dorsal face is covered by the remaining cortex. The left edge of the dorsal face is sharp but shows no evidence of retouch on the surface. The dorsal face shows evidence of two removal scars, removed at varying angles, at the proximal end. The first is a triangular removal scar and the second is a semi circular one, both removed from the left edge at the proximal end. On both scars and the dorsal face the conchoidal ripple marks are prominent. On the ventral face the conchoidal ripple marks are shallower and there is evidence of post depositional damage to the surface in the form of scratches and indentations on the right edge. There is a possible semi circular removal scar at the distal end on the right edge and a further possible removal at the distal end. The bulb of percussion is prominent but broken at the proximal end of the ventral face.
The object measures 25.6 mm in length and is 13.6 mm wide. It has a thickness of 9.2 mm and weighs 2.7 g.
The object is a mid to dark green in colour with dark inclusions within the flint, it exhibits little to no patination. The cortex is a light brown in colour. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail. Other examples of this type of artefact have been recorded on the database, including BH-42A4D8.
