A medieval to post-medieval lead-alloy bird feeder.
The feeder has a flat, semicircular base, above which the sides are vertical. At the top, the rim flares outwards. The vessel appears to have been deliberately closed by squashing the sides and folding inwards the incomplete front wall.
Maximum width: 65.8mm; depth (front to back): 25.2mm; height: 37.7mm. Weight: 198.34g.
A close parallel for this feeder was found in excavations in Southwark (Egan 2005: 129, no. 617). The London example was unstratified; however, according to Egan, the earliest feeders of this form date from the late 15th/early 16th century, with the plainer examples extending up to at least the late 17th century (ibid).
