A complete lead shot ball of Post-Medieval date (AD 1640-1750). The object has a circumferentially running casting seam and a projecting casting spru. Around the casting spru is a large amount of iron corrosion and possibly a slightly projecting ferrous metal spike which passes centrally through the object. This object is probably part of an iron-stemmed dumb-bell shot, a modified form of ammunition for a smooth bore muzzle loading weapon. The weight of the shot suggests that it was meant to be fired from a pistol.
The metal is grey in colour with a smooth patina and brown patches of iron corrosion.
Diameter: 13.15mm, Height (including iron): 15.12mm, Weight 13.3g.
