A complete lead alloy object of modern date. The object is triangle with raised decoration on both faces. The obverse depicts a horned robed figure with both arms raised holding a snake or staff in left hand within a raised border. This may represent Cernunnos the Celtic horned god or similar. The reverse shows a crescent above an uncertain symbol which may be an attempt at Greek though does not represent any actual symbols.
The casting and condition of this item suggests a modern date and pseudo-pagan nature.
The object is 22.4mm long, 20.1mm wide, 2.7mm thick and weighs 3.1g.
Paul Withers comments that this is an unusual item with reverse depictions similar to those on ancient Indian coins, however they are cast in bronze and are circular. While the encrustation adhering does give the indication of age lead alloys can assume such an appearance after as little as twenty years. Mr Withers therefore suggests this item is likely to have resulted from the New Age movement of the 1970's.
