A complete lead weight or token, probably dating from the Medieval to Post Medieval periods, c. 1250-1800 AD. The weight is discoidal and domed on the top. The top is decorated with a raised cross, with pellets in each quarter ranging in number from two to possibly four. The weight is18.50 mm in diameter and weighs 10.98 g.
Tokens of similar simple design were originally fashioned to mimic Medieval long cross pennies, but are known to have been used throughout the Medieval to Post Medieval periods, c. 1250-1800. It is thought that this particular object may be a weight of a similar style as it is heavier than most tokens and domed similar to pan weights from this period. It is, of course, possible that this item is a token which has been formed hastily, as in many examples.
