A struck flint flake of probable Mesolithic date. The flake has patinated a deep mottled blue colour, and demonstrates several thin blade removals on its dorsal face, with a total of three dorsal arrises. A prominent bulb of percussion is visible on the ventral face, although there is no bulbar scar. On the dorsal left face (ventral side) some recent edge-damage is visible. The platform is sub-lenticular in shape, and at the distal end there is a small amount of cortex visible.
Measurements;
Maximum length down percussion axis (mm): 42.86
Maximum width: 20.59
Thickness at midpoint: 4.42
Platform length: 13.96
Weight (g): 5.80
Notes:
Struck flakes on their own are difficult to date on their own, although the blue patination and negative scars visible on the dorsal surfaces of this piece indicate that it probably dates to the Mesolithic.
