An Early Medieval copper alloy coin: a Northumbrian styca of Ethelred II, first reign, dating from AD840 - 844, moneyer Leofdegn. This coin was probably struck on an oval flan as there is a large edge chip but no loss of obverse legend. It is 12.4mm in diameter and 1.3mm thick. It weighs 0.89gm.
