An incomplete, copper alloy, small-long brooch of early medieval date, about AD 500 - 600. The remaining portion consists of the lower bow and the foot; the head, the pin lug and pin have all broken away and are missing with a patinated break. The bow is flat rectangular in section and steps down to a rectangular sectioned foot, which itself steps up to an expanded, flared triangular teminal. The bow is decorated with two short, transverse grooves at the base where it joins the foot. The foot is decorated with two transverse grooves near the bow, a raised transverse bar across the end of the foot, and punched annulets along the sides. The catch plate remains in place but incomplete on the underside of the foot, near the bow. The brooch has a smooth, grey green patina. It is 36.8mm long, 12.2mm wide and 9.3mm thick. 4.5g.
