An incomplete Medieval-Post Medieval copper alloy drop handle, dating AD 1300-1600. The frame is composed of three arms, an octagonal shaft on the longest edge, a hexagonal short arm and a round projecting arm. These arms roughly form an S-shape. The hexagonal and round arms would have been mirrored on the other side, but the object has broken and is bent just before the corner. There is a rounded section in the centre of the octagonal shaft with collars either side. At the surviving corner is an acorn shaped projection, which would have been mirrored on the other side. There is a zoomorphic terminal at the end of the round arm, though the animal that is being depicted is unclear. Attached to this section is a loop with a projection below. This projection would have fitted into the vessel with a collar just below the loop to seperate the handle from the vessel. The metal is a mid-dark grey with patches of light brown in places.

There is an identical example published in Egan (1998, no. 487) which draw parallels with an example that is from a 14th-16th century hoard from Wales. It is believed to come from some sort of sheet vessel.

Dimensions: length: 86.44 mm; width: 44.80 mm; thickness at terminal: 12.99 mm; weight: 47.66g.
