A late Neolithic flint axehead, dating to the period c.2750-2350 BC. The axhead is lenticular in cross section and in plan is sub-ovoid. It expands in width from the butt end towards the blade. There are negative flake removal scars on most of the surface on both sides. Both faces exhibit a polished area at the blade end which narrows into the centre. A chip is present on the blade edge. The patination of the chip indicates that it occured during use, rather than during deposition. One edge has a later chip, probably from post depositional damage. The axehead is very light grey in colour with lighter coloured inclusions. It has been slightly repatinated, and there is evidence of iron staining across both surfaces.
The axehead measures 101.8mm in length, 43.9mm in width, 23.4mm in thickness and weighs 115g.
