A Roman copper alloy bell-shaped stud, dating to AD 40 - 410. Allason-Jones type 2. 42.5mm in diameter, 29mm high, and weighing 40.75grams. The object is circular in form and trapezoidal in cross section. It is in fair condition and largely complete. The object is formed of a concave circular plate which has in its centre a circular shaped projection which has a sub triangular cross section. This protrudes about 7mm above the edge of the plate. Surrounding this the plate is decorated with concentric bands rising up to a flat lip. A small part of this edge and the body are missing. The reverse of the plate tapers down to a rectangular shaped shaft with a circular cross section, giving it a 'bell' like form. This terminates in a flat circular plate which houses the remains of a rectangular fixing prong. The object is similar to DUR-29C6D5, but in much better condition.
