A Medieval copper alloy drop handle, dating AD 1270-1600. The object has two arms at either end of the grip, which is longer than the arms. The frame is sub-rectangular in section. There are two projections at the top of the arms which would have been fitted into loops to attach it to the vessel. There are two acorn shaped knops at the opposing two corners of the object. In the centre of the grip is a slightly wider section with two collars separating the grip in two. The object has a dark green patina.
A similar example is published in Egan (1998, no. 487) but has a more octagonal section and is less complete. The published example comes from a context dated AD 1270-1350, though other similar examples have been found into the 16th century.
